A Quality Tune = A Quality Day on the Mountain

Well-tuned equipment instills confidence.

Quality Tunes

OVERNIGHT TUNING

Sidecountry Tunes fills the need for quality, hand tuning of ski and snowboard equipment in the Smugglers’ Notch area.

Tim Aiken will personally tune your skis and snowboards to your needs.

Don’t send your expensive equipment through a one-size-fits-all machine that may remove material unnecessarily.

Let Tim hand-tune your equipment, and manipulate it through the best machines. It will be handled carefully, with craftsmanship.

Meet Your Tuner:
Tim Aiken

EXPERIENCE

Tim started his career in the ski industry in 1988 as a ski and snowboard instructor. In the mid-‘90s he transitioned into ski technician work and never looked back. After working at a couple different shops in the northeast, he finally settled in at Today’s Edge in Stowe, where he perfected his craft for an additional 13 years under the tutelage of Doug Adams.

STARTS TUNING BUSINESS

When Doug retired in 2019, Tim purchased the shop equipment and moved it over the Notch to Jeffersonville, opening the doors to Sidecountry Tunes. Located just off Route 108, near Martell’s, his location is convenient to Smugglers’ Notch Resort.

KNOWS YOUR TUNING NEEDS

Tim has a passion for tuning equipment to perfection for its user. The benefit of bringing your equipment to a skilled tuner like Tim is that he knows what’s wrong with your gear by examining it and hearing about your experience on it, and then makes your skis or board like new.

It’s like therapy for my skis!

~ AD

Your tunes have made me a better skier. Now I can fully trust my gear! Thanks, Tim!

~ CN

We have had many people tune our skis over the years but Tim is the best! He knows what we like and we always have a good experience.

~ John & Penny

In 60 years Tim is the 3rd person I’ve let tune my skis. I brought him an overused pair of skis and he brought them back to life! 100% Recommendation – Tim is truly knowledgeable and professional. His work is done timely and quality is fairly priced.

~ Eric Baker, PSIA for 47 years

When it comes to tuning and service there is no one better than Tim. Being a full time patroller, it’s safe to say I don’t take it easy on my gear. Tim has worked miracles to fix the damage I have done. If the damage can’t be fixed, Tim is upfront and honest. Repairs and tunes always turn around in good time. You couldn’t find a more reliable, trustworthy tech if you tried!

Are You Experiencing Lack of Control With Your Equipment?

Common Issues:

  • Base-high (convex bases) – ski feels wish-washy, lack of edge control
  • Railed (concave bases) – can’t get off your edge, lack of fluid, linked turns
  • Too sharp – edges have too much angle and your skis turn before you want them to
  • Lack of base bevel – twitchy, hooks up too quickly into the turn
  • Lack of wax – bases too dry, no glide, feels like skiing on Velcro
  • Edges dull – can’t hold an edge
  • Damage requiring repair – base damage/ core shots, de-lamination, broken edges, cracked sidewalls
